If you go to Checker (or Shucks or Kragen) or Advanced Auto, the 'heavy duty' springs are actually 9C1 spec springs. They're $90 or so for the front set, and IIRC $60 or so for the rear set.

Re: 9c1 springs

Thanks..Do you think I would need to swap anything else out on my 87? Or could I just install the springs and ride? I want to get some air shocks installed in the back too.

Also would these lift my car or make it lower. I was told It would give it an inch or two lift. I wanted me car a lil higher. Its sits pretty low now on the stock springs and its a b!tch trying to get in an out of the car.

Re: 9c1 springs

They will raise your car. Expect 2-3" if your springs are severely weak. All you should do is replace the springs - nothing else outside of an alignment after the fact is necessary. You WILL need an alignment.

if you get 9c1 springs and your front is low now you may find that it will be 2inches higher...before settling out....after you replace springs get the wheel alignment after 500-1000 mi...drive on some ruff roads to settle out the springs...do not get the lowering springs these are trouble...

air shocks are good if you tow or carry a lot of bodies in the trunk...don't put tooo much air in shocks with no load 25psi is all you need ..if you put 400lbs I found 80psi keeps the vehicle level...alway try to keep drive shafts cv joints straight...

replace the sway bar bushings ....

usually the rear springs are not worn if you go with air shocks you may not need to replace them...If the rear springs are rusted then replace them..

when you remove the springs in the front a vehicle owner removed them by unbolting the lower control arm bolts and then with a jack under the arm released the spring pressure... rather that removal of the ball joints...

Good way to kill yourself if you've never done springs before.

actually this way is safer as the spring will just fall inward not toward you but away from you...with worn springs they will usually fall out...when installing the new spring jack up vehicle to get new spring in then drop slowly to position correctly...if something goes wrong once again its going away from you inward not outward....

Re: 9c1 springs

Just go to a local suspension place, I went to a local truck suspension shop, and I got the heaviest rated springs front and rear for my 1989 Caprice 9C1. I then got Bilstein shocks and took to local dealer and had them put on the car. It raised the car about 2 inches, but that car never wallowed on turns. I also had them replace the front and rear sway bar bushings. Now these were not GM parts but were much better. I needed this for towing and the car did not sag at all hauling an open trailer with 2 bikes on it.
