The thin film in the pan is the clutches. I don't thin you can swap a 4l60e transmission with a newer one, the pwm model had major changes in the computer controll system that controll the torque converter lockup which allowed the converter to slip. It has a different converter and electronics. The easy way to check to see if a transmission will work is to match the color of the exterior plug.
