Hey every one, new to the forums here.. Hoping someone with some more experience can help me out a little bit.
So yea.. I have a 1987 Grand Marquis < LOVE THIS CAR- 4 door - 5.02L..... Blaw.. Blaw.. Blaw.. Any ways.. I have this Radio/CD... a Pioneer DEH-1300.. Problem... Have no clue how to connect this CD Player into the cars wiring. I heard you have to cut the wires and tape them or what not.. I'm hoping there is some kind of wiring harness... But I have no clue what to look for. If it does come to the point of cutting and taping.. I'm fine with that.. I just don't know.. If it means anything- the car was bought with the Premiere Sound Package of the time.. So yea. I'm 17.. and have no clue what to do.. so if you could. Speak like you would to a child of 4.. Law l. Thanks. Me =

Re: 87 Ford Grand Marquis To Pioneer Deh-1300
First of all - Welcome To The Forum! You will find MANY knowledgable people here ready to help. Second, I too have a '87 GM AND have done a stereo upgrade so I can lead you in the right direction. You will need two adapters/connectors - one for Power, etc..and the other for the speakers. Since you have Premium Sound (which means upgraded speakers and factory amp - 80 Watts, if I remember) you will also require an adapter so you can continue to use the amp. If it still works, I would suggest getting the adapter and continuing using the amp. The part numbers may have changed since I did this but a great source is http://www.crutchfield.com. Let me say I have NO FINANCIAL ties to the company but their tech support is great and lasts for the life of the products. Just call them and tell them the car you have AND that you have Premium Sound and they will get you the right parts. If you are upgrading the speakers they have adapters to connect between the factory connectors and the new speakers so there is no need to cut the original connectors off! You wire the connectors they sell you to your stereo and then just plug into the factory wiring harness for both power and speakers. No need to cut into the factory wires either!! They will be able to answer any other questions you may have. By the way, you wire the amp adapter to just one set of speakers (can't remember if it is the front or rears) NOT BOTH!! Make sure you check on this. I did the job over three years ago, with an Alpine, and it sounds great!! Even changed ALL the speakers (including the dash ones - we have six speakers in total - two dash, two doors (front) and two rears). Good luck.......MiamiBob
