Racing my Grand Prix??? lots of miles??

Tomarrow me and a bunch of friends are going down to the drag way before it closes, and i kinda wanna race my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix with 120k miles on it...3.8 Series II v6 motor. Motor is in pretty good shape and all but......is there a big risk in flooring the car, all the way down the quarter mile track?? any consipqeunces, would you guys advice against it, or should i go for it?? i am torn in making up my mind. I really dont want to screw the car up.

I floor mine when I race.

Just go for it. You can't screw it up unless you have existing relevant issues or problems that affect performance. The most you can do is screw up your ET if you do not have sufficient drag racing experience or red light. But that is between you and your friends.

Once or twice at a track, probably not. But if your one of those drivers who floor it from every stoplight so it shifts at 5000rpm's, and the slams on the brakes at the next light, I'm sure tranny issues are probable.

Re: Racing my Grand Prix??? lots of miles??

The car ought to be good for a couple of baseline runs with no issues.

If you're going to do this regularly then you probably should get into the mindset of doing upgrade & repair work.
