Problems shifting ougt of 4 wheel Lo
I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee, 5.2L with Quadra Trac. I just bought it about 2 months ago and have only tried shifting into 4 Lo one other time. Today I shifted into lo with no problem. When I tried shifting out of it, the lever would not move. I ended up shutting the Jeep off and using my knee, forced the lever forward. I finally got it to go. Any ideas where the problem is or what I can do to solve this?

I had it in neutral, but the lever just didn't want to move.

Re: Problems shifting ougt of 4 wheel Lo
Most likely the transfer case was in a bind, still having pressure on the chain will cause it not to shift out of Lo range easily. So, place it back in gear and move it slightly to see if you can get the chain unbound. A lot of 4 wheel drive vehicles have this problem if the transfer case gets bound. Most of the time you may be on a slight hill and be able just to coast a little while in neutral then try kicking the transfer case out.
