Shift linkage

I have a 99 neon. It doesn't go into reverse or neutral. It shifts from park to drive. Any ideas.

Re: Shift linkage

how long have you had this car? and how long has this been doing this? because it sounds like it's time for new tranny.

Re: Shift linkage

I've had it about a month. I have put on a new head gasket, new radiator, new sun roof, new water pump, 2 new brake hoses, new brake rotors, rear struts and a new lower motor mount. I freed up the kickdown cable and ever since that I can't get it into neutral or reverse. It goes into drive when I pull the shifter into reverse.

Re: Shift linkage

I took off the tranny pan and fixed the linkage inside the transmission. I will never take off the clip below the kick down lever again. Hopefully this car is good for awhile.
