07-can't reset oil guage

I've got an 07 base model grand prix with the full computer on the dash. We changed the oil and I couldn't reset the oil life guage, then we did another oil change and had the same thing. Today we just changed oil again and I went out to try and once again fail to reset the darn thing. I wouldn't care, but every time I start the car it's dingin' at me. irritating. Every other guage resets within a second of pushing the reset button. Any idea what's going on? I did take it to a dealer and a salesman helped me, but it wasn't any help, ha!
Thanks for any help, appreciate it.

not sure about the '04+ but on the '97-'03's you turn the ignition to the on position, pump the gas peddle 3 times, and the oil light flashes. again...not sure if thats the procedure for the '04+ but its worth the try

Re: 07-can't reset oil guage

When I had my 04 I had to hold the reset for like 15 seconds. Just hold it in till it resets.

Odd on my GTP, I just switch the DIC to the oil life monitor and push and hold reset. Within a few seconds it resets to 100%. Are there multiple ways to reset the Oil Life Monitor

To the OP, what did the dealer do to reset the Oil Life Monitor? Why didnt he show you, or did he use the Tech 2?

BTW, does anyone ever really use the Oil Life Monitor? Mine seems way too long. I usually change every 3000 miles and my OLM is usually areound 65% when I change. Does GM want us to run the oil so long we cause engine damage, or whats the deal?

sorry...yeah, on my GT and GTX i just hold the reset button. however my SE still has the analog information center with the dummy light...and thats how you reset the dummy light.

and as far as the oil monitor goes...i believe in the owners manual it says to change the oil every 5K. also...the DIC is suppose to go by "driving conditions" idk...i would never trust it either. every 3K or 3 months...no execeptions.

Re: 07-can't reset oil guage

It should say in your owners manual how to reset it.
My '05, put it on the oil monitor, hold reset for a few seconds and it resets.
My '05 GMC Sierra, ign to on and push the throttle 3 times.
My '02, ign to on and push the throttle 3 times.
My '93, push the DIC to oil, hit reset for another 3000 miles.
