3.25" pulley

so a friend of mine offered to sell me a 3.25" pulley for cheap, and i'm considering my options. the only things i have done to my car are no resonator, no cat, aftermarket mufflers. i have aftermarket 8.8mm wires as well, but i'm sure that isn't a big deal. if i get a downpipe, 180 thermostat, colder plugs, a 1.0 pmc, and a cold air, would i be safe to run the 3.25?

Re: 3.25" pulley

You dont have a cat converter? Better hope you dont get pulled over and checked? You dont live in a state that checks emissions?

If I were you I would pass on the 3.25. Even with colder plugs, colder stat, PCM, and DP, the lowest I would go is 3.4", becuase to me its not worth chipping my pistons.

Its your decision.

Re: 3.25" pulley

In IL they check to see if the converter is there. If it is not you are fined and have to have on installed.

Re: 3.25" pulley

I agree with Tim that a 3.25" pulley is not a good choice for a daily driven vehicle even with the other supporting mods. The performance gains over a 3.4" are far outweighed by the problems it can cause..

Re: 3.25" pulley

I don't see any appropriate supporting mods for a 3.25" SC pulley. More intake and exhaust mods like headers or minimum of PEMs, etc. Just a bigger down pipe doesn't help. Otherwise knock retard to the tune of greater than 4 degrees or more will kill it for sure.

Re: 3.25" pulley

I agree Bob. What I meant to say is that even with the more extensive list of mods needed to support a 3.25" (headers, valve and head work, etc...) vs. what he listed, the gains over a 3.4" aren't worth it.

Re: 3.25" pulley

best way do do things is to scan your car stock.. then do things in steps and scan..

dont quote me but the 3.25 pulley might beable to run it if you have 103 plugs ,160 tstat, with race fuel 104 octane unleaded. straight not mixed ..

If the outside temp is aournd 40 degrees.. maybe...

Re: 3.25" pulley

Running high octane race fuel will make a difference but it is not practical for a street driven vehicle or daily driver and at what cost.

All he needs to do is scan for KR before the pulley switch and after the switch. The 3.4" pulley is really the best all around street pulley and I would recommend staying with it. However, you can always go with a modular pulley system and switch to the 3.25" for drag racing (emphasizing legal) if the OP even indulges in that type activity.
