what's the hype about mufflers on your mkiii

I have two 91 mkiii's and they have two different types of mufflers; one is a factory set up that's been tweeked and the other custom w/flowmaster and all i can say is that they look different thats all. I truly don't know, I'm new to this.

carbon fiber gives you more performance and light wt.
