Unhappy 95 jimmy trans fluid coming out dipstick

my dad just bought a 95 jimmy and is now having problems the tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick. he thought it might be a vacuum line or something but not sure. any ideas what to look for or what might need to be replaced to get this to stop. the vehicle is in excellent shape other than the transmission problem.

thanx for any help.

Too much fluid?

Tranny set into high fluid-pressure [limp] mode [by another problem]?

As said check vent and fluid level first thing.
May be a good time to service transmission fluid and filter to.
Also transmission heating up or slipping will push fluid out the dipstick.
Then make sure you have the flip top dip stick tube and that it is sealing.

Re: 95 jimmy trans fluid coming out dipstick

If fluid is coming out the vent for the transfer case
(usually zip tied to the dip stick for the transmission) I'd pull the drain plug on the transfer case. If you get anymore than 2.6 pints out of it....the seals between the transfer case and the transmission are probably shot. When I had mine go out I nearly drained 7 QUARTS !!!! from the transfer case when I noticed it coming out of the vent.
