300zx first car?

okay here's the scoop. im going to be 15 1/2 in a few weeks and ill be getting my permit. ill just be driving my parents around in my grandpa's e30 cabrio until im 16 and i get some birthday money. here's my plan. i think its pretty stellar. i brought it here to be criticized. lol

I'll have about 6 grand. ill get around a 94 300zx na. im not exactly how much insurance would be exactly but i believe i could afford it. 3.8 gpa.
whatever cash i had left over would go into suspension. possibly i stillen body kit. i like the gtx-r2 front best personally but thats not what im discussing here.

would a 94 300zx na be an okay first car? just sorta an open discussion here. wanna know whats bad.

Call your insurance carrier before you buy-- you may be surprised by how much insurance is on a sports car for a driver under 25.

I would recommend getting a beater car initially-- I remember my days when I was under 25. I did some things that didn't seem stupid at the time, but looking back were foolhardy.

get a z31 instead of a z32. a z31 is older therefore likely to be cheaper in initial cost and insurance. maybe not as powerful, but power is not something you want for your first car. you want a shit-tastic car therefor when you have your first whoops accident you don't cry over your z32 worth 10g...and then you're SOL(shit outta luck). go with the e30. good lil cars, can take a hit, and damn it if they're engines aren't invincible. i drive a stealth tt(320hp nissan 300zx tt compitition) and a porsche 944, german's were getting it right in the 80's, you'll have an amazing amount of fun in an e30, and cabrio's...good way to fit more women in the back seat. or if you still want the z32, save your money, drive the e30, and get a z32 tt when you're 18, graduation gift for yourself, or get the z32 n/a and modify but not drive it, get it done instead of a work in process.

i'm not going to say your a bad driver, mainly cause you can't even drive yet, and yes a z3 is an awsome car in both versions, just not a very smart choice for a 16yr old to drive. you'll have more tickets for stupid shit(1mph over) than you can imagine. young male and sports cars...cops say oooo money for the town or state.

Hey just my 2 cents here. I don't think a z would be a great choice as a first car. First $6k for an NA would be way to much to spend on one. Locally in RI they tend to go for $2500 to $4000. I don't know what the market is where your located. Secondly the insurance from past experience on a 16 year old driving a sports car can range from $200 to $400 a month depending on the coverage. And lastly from owning several cars myself and I hate to say this because I love my Z and have owned 2 NA's and a TT... They are not the most reliable cars in the world and are a major PIA to work on.
If you want a reliable, fun to drive, gas friendly, and wont kill you on insurance, I would suggest maybe an integra GSR. Recently sold mine to buy my TT and can't keep up with the big boys, but would definetly ride with the NA's.

i posted this forever ago. and it actually was fine with the parents but in ohio i cant have a rear wheel drive. I'v actually ended up getting a 3000gt Love the 300zx just cant go anywhere in the winter. you guys sorta crack me up when you tell me to get a beater. no way in hell i'm getting a beater. just not how i roll lol. I mean i have no problem driving a 240sx or a Z31. Because we know what they were and what they can be. being in highschool. everybody just looks at the sex appeal. They'd think a lamborghini was cool even if it had a 3cyl geo metro engine. I personally think performance = cool. but i think my 3000gt was a smart pick. sweet lines. pretty quick.
