98 Taurus - Headlamp covers dirty - lights dim

Can the Plastic Outer Lens covers be removed/cleaned on this car? I replaced the bulbs themselves but the lights are still really dim on the road...

Welcome to the forum!

There are several options on the market to clean the headlight lenses. If the lenses are dull and discolored, you'll want a kit that includes a couple grades of fine wet sandpape as well as a polishing compound. This kits, when used properly, can have decent results, but those results may be relatively short term.

If you plan to keep the car awhile, it might be worth purchasing a set of new aftermarket DOT-approved headlight assemblies online. For the Taurus they are reasonably priced on eBay.

I use Turtlewax polishing compound with my orbital polisher and my headlights shine up like new but like Rod said the results are temporary. I polish them a couple times a year to keep them looking good.
I've also seen chemicals at the auto parts store that claim to remove the yellowing from headlights. I haven't used these so I can't recommend them.
