Yes this is another task that I have as well Brian, as the 6 hour race that I will be running in goes through the afternoon and 2 hours into the dark. I had considered cutting the hood and using (of all things) Nissan Micra headlight units. These are about the right size and profile.

Would be interested to see what you light bar looks like at some stage.

Must be an ID 10 T error, I hate when that happens. LOL

Post the link and lets have a look at it?

Id 10 T is the best....I used to work software support and I would tell some customers to get a pen out and write this "CODE" down and I always got em...LOL the old days!!!

Anyway...here is the link to the album I put up showing the hood pins, the light bar (3 years ago), and the exhaust/mufflers......

Re: Ideas for cutting down on hood movement at high speed?

The track feedback on the hood holesaw cut outs (shown in an earlier pic) is that it does definitely cut down on buffeting. The bad news for me was that I could only drive my car for one run as my clutch cable failed-Please see my new thread-feedback would be appreciated.
Brian I really like your solution. In looking at the existing standoffs I came to realize that my left side standoff was about 1" from even touching my hood. Adjusting this undoubtedly helped part of the buffeting (at least the downward part of the cycle). I was thinking since my buffeting happens more at the outside corners(relative to the windshield) that the 2 standoffs nearest the window edges would most benefit from your type of mod. My car has the 2 southco fasteners attaching to 2 raised aluminum (kind of upside "u" shaped) brackets,so the center buffet is not really an issue. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Ideas for cutting down on hood movement at high speed?

Here's my hood lift solution. I think a lot of the cars have the Southco fasteners (brackets shown here). I decided to take out the standoff and replace it with a hood pin standoff. I had some aluminum stock in my toolbox which I used as the spacer. Doesn't need to be so beefy but it looks OK that way and spreads out the load. Still need some rubber washers, but you get the idea.

Here it is with the hood in place-The outside fenders is where I had the most lifting-no chance of that now. Looks good too. Car needs a washing-got stuck trailering in the rain!

Re: Ideas for cutting down on hood movement at high speed?

Nice work Uwe, that will help. To really get on top of it though, I suspect that you will need to also convert the supports that are further forward and nearer to halfway up the hood.

Reason for this is to stop the pressure under the hood bulging it up in the middle. These are the supports that I have converted to pin type.

Kel.

Re: Ideas for cutting down on hood movement at high speed?

Kel-I'm sure your correct. I am the new kid on the block-just trying to figure things out. You guys are way ahead of me. I'll see how it does and probably make the change you suggest. I am driving a 5.0 L school car so I am not hitting the speeds some of you guys are...yet!
