That depends on the year. I'm sure you're talking about a mid 80s model that has a 2.2L in it already and not an older model with a VW 1.7L.

If that is the case I would suggest just getting the engine and transmission from any 1989+ FWD Mopar. It's called the common block. It's stronger than any of the previous blocks. It's also cross drilled for cooling. It would have a 1 piece intake manifold. You can always find a two piece and put it on but they are a bit more expensive, more of a PITA, and they don't flow all that much more.

They aren't worth it IMO.

Now, again, I assume this already has a 2.2L in it. If so, then the common block, be it a 2.2L or a 2.5L will bolt right to the same mounts. For an Omni I would suggest a 2.2L engine.

Also, are you looking to go manual or auto?

Well, the simple answer is that you can drop any 2.2L/2.5L variant into the car. I assume you want to drop a TII in it? If so the easiest way would be to find a an 89' TII engine and get everything under the hood, including the tranny and axles. Don't forget the computer either. You'll need the down pipe as well.

I'd suggest upgrading the brakes with some off the TII LeBaron/Daytona.
