im just starting to learn bout the electrical system and im haven trouble with the windows none of them will go down. They was working and have stopped. the driver window went down once an came back up and thats it whats a good way to find out if just one of the window motors can make all of them stop working or should i just change all of them out.

Re: windows

I would check your fuses and relays before you go spend a pretty penny on 4 new window motors. Also can check the wire connection to the switch. Have you tried all of the switches or just the master window switch?

Re: windows

tryed all of them and the master switch. Is the relay the little thing that is bigger then the fuses. if so how can u tell if its bad. Can u put a hot wire to them and see if that will work.

Re: windows

Could always check the master switch at the drivers door. Use a DVM to see if there is 12vdc, this should be a constant voltage when the key is set to accessories position. If there is no voltage you might have an ignition switch problem. For relays look at the relay case, usually the circuit diagram is printed on the side. Apply voltage to the coil, you should hear the coil click. If the relay clicks, this means that the relay is working but the contacts could be bad.

Re: windows

Or you could always just swap the relay with another one that looks the same.

If I remember right, doesnt GM use circuit breakers for their power windows? Maybe you have a problme with one of your circuit breakers?

Re: windows

All power to the windows is routed through the driver's side master switch, so you need to start by seeing if you have power reaching it first as doctorhrdware suggested.
