Cargo basket

Hello:

I would like to get a roof rack cargo basket. I want something light, but strong and easy to install and remove. I want to use it when we go camping, it should allow me to carry more stuff, but I need to remove it easly when we go kayaking. Please post some links and average prices. What are the most widely used on the Xterra? What do you guys think about the Nissan one?

How are they attached to the stock rack? Will it scratch the paint of the rack? If so what's the best way to treat the scratch on the rack?

Here is a picture of my Xterra in Guanica, Puerto Rico.

Thanks again guys!

Surco racks are made of aluminum and are quite strong for their weight. They are also larger and taller the nissan model. Another option for you would be a Yakima Loadwarrior basket.

Thumbs up

Hey cool! Our first visitor from Puerto Rico.

Here is a new product that might let you put your gear on the roof, without having to remove it for your Kayaks.

One of your other options, the Yakima/Xterra basket, attaches with plastic mighty mounts so it won't damage your rack, but you might have to remove it to fit the kayak.

One of our members modified his basket to fit recessed along the line of the roof rack. Maybe he'll post some info or pictures. That might be another option for you to keep both rack and kayak on the top.
