2.4 cavalier avg. fuel mileage

i am looking at buying a cavalier but im unsure of which engine to go with, ive owned a 97 with a 2.2 with a 5speed. this car was really fuel effecient, i got approx. 40mpg. just wondering what the 95-00 z-24 with the 2.4 gets? id like the mileage from a standard and auto. thanks all!

Re: 2.4 cavalier avg. fuel mileage

my 97 has a 2.4 with the 5 speed manual trans. and if I drive conservatively on the freeway I think it would get about 40 MPG, the problem is that I don't drive conservatively so the actual freeway milage I get is about 35 MPG. one trip that I made from Chico, Ca to Fort Brag, Ca and back (about 250 miles) I was astonished to find that I had gotten about 35 MPG and that is over a mountain pass that goes from 0 feet elevation to about 2500 feet elevation and I was passing everyone on the uphills.
