low oil pressure at 2k rpm
Need your help with isolating a trouble.
Riding in a 92 Explorer V6 4.0 Automatic 4x2. When the tach reaches 2000 RPM the oil pressure gauge goes south. Anything below 2k the gauge seems normal. All feedback is appreciated |

Re: low oil pressure at 2k rpm
The first thing I'd suggest is using a mechanical guage to see if the oil pressure switch is working. I'm not sure about the '92, but on the 2000 model year, the gauge is controlled by a switch. Literally, the gauge will either read zero or normal, there is no in between.

Re: low oil pressure at 2k rpm
Thanks Rod. You are right; the gauge will either read zero or normal. I closer I get to 2k the closer it gets to zero. I'll have to do more checking. Thanks again!

U nailed it. Replaced the oil sender unit (switch) and pressure gauge works like a champ. Now I can concentrate on the noise I hear (sounds like a servo motor) when I accelerate from a stop. Thanks again |
