97 Outback Wagon worth $1900 ?

I found a 97 Ouback wagon with 230,000 on the car. Owner claims engine was replaced is there way to check on that? The check engine light is on. Owner thinks it's transmision realted? And the exhuast is noisy where it conects to the engine. Underneath the car looks rusty. but the body is good. Car will near major interior cleaning. I had a 91 Legacy wagon and it was a great car sold it with 146K on it.

You wont be able to license it if the CEL is active. Unless you live outside of regulatory boundaries.
230000 is a lot of miles for the suspension components. Is it a 2.5? Head gasket problems in that year with the 2.5.
You start by throwing money into the car and it wont stop.

Re: 97 Outback Wagon worth $1900 ?

Thanks for the reply..
I deciced to pass on it many others did to.
I think I could have easliy put $2,000 into it the first year I owned it.
Reason I passed was the mileage and the rust underneath the car.
The Engine was a 2.5 I will look for something else and probably spend a little more.
