2000 Taurus FFV-antitheft device on the interstate

I was on the interstate with both front windows halfway down at 55mph. Had only been on the interstate for <1/2 mile, residential speed before that. All of a sudden the car "seized up" and at the same time the antitheft light went on. Could it be something to do with the force of the airflow against the partially open windows which was quite strong? It was quite alarming because I lost control of the car for a moment. Then it went off and I closed the windows and it never happened again.

Re: 2000 Taurus FFV-antitheft device on the interstate

I wouldn't expect an issue with the SecuriLock or PATS system to cause the car to stall once it's been running, but I'm not positive on that. Also, I don't think the breeze through the car would have caused the issue, probably just coincidence.

I would suggest you get the diagnostic codes read, and if you have access to a scan tool that can access the anti-theft system, get those codes read as well.

My initial suspect would be that you lost voltage for some reason (loose connection at the battery, loose connection at the fuse box, intermittant open circuit in the battery) and the anti-theft light came on due to detecting a low voltage condition.
