Spark Blowout?

Hey guys
ive been really busy with school and work latley so i havent gotten a chance to get on and post some pics of the VR-4.
anyways, ive run into my first trouble with it tonight and me and taylor (torchedstealth) are thinking it may be spark blowout
right now the EBC is @14.5 psi and when i get around close to peak boost my car gets a nasty missfire and doesnt accelerate, under very low or no boost it does just fine with no missfires
I checked the front plugs and the last one with the longest wire looks like its been running a wee bit lean, but the other too look fine
so i guess my questions are:
1. what are the symptoms of blowout
2. what is the plug gap supposed to be at?
3. is there any way to tell if it is blowout?
Thanks guys, i really appreciate any help

shes just BPU for now
3in turbo-back exhaust
import trends [email protected]
fidanza light weight flywheel
HD clutch
HKS twin intake.
turboxs rfl BOV
metal y-pipe
and its dropped, not that i consider that a huge performance upgrade or anything, hahah.

Re: Spark Blowout?

Spark blowout? It could be cutting in and out. Have you checked for boost leaks? Or even a line that came loose from your boost solenid? Both of those would be good places ot start.

And btw, damn sexy car man. I am sorry but if anyone in here compares themself to your car it better be a 3/S lol.

hahaha thanks about the car man.
but im pretty sure its not boost leak, it does just fine with low boost around set around 9psi and spools perfectly even on high boost untill it peaks out or at least get up there. but i might as well check anyways.
spark blowout is when the plugs are gapped to much and under high boost the spark gets blown out by the air before it gets a chance to ignite the gas.
soooo im kinda thinking thats the problem, i just dont know 100%

Re: Spark Blowout?

pull ur plugs and check the gap, let me know what the gap is. spark blow out is when ur in higher boost when it hits peak boost it sounds like a missfire and the car kinda falls on its face. depending on how bad the gaps are on the plugs,

Re: Spark Blowout?

Hey i had the exact same thing happen to me when i turned my boost up to around 15 psi. I bought new plugs and gapped them to .035. The stock plug gap is usually gapped at .040. Once i regapped them i havnt had a single problem. hope this helps out. But be careful not to gap them too small because that will cause detonation which you definatley dont want.
