1995 Grand Am - Popping Noise in Engine

Hello there. I have a 95 Grand Am and when I turn the car on, the area around the transmission makes a loud popping noise. The weirdest thing about the whole thing is that the noise goes away once the car has heated up.

Could I get any help on this issue? Thanks in advance.

is it when moving,idling or doesnt matter??how about reving at idle does it get louder? auto or stick trans?

Thanks for the response. The only time I hear it is when I'm not moving. I cant hear the sounds when I'm driving because my drivers side window does not roll down. My Uncle did rev the the idle and it made a sound like a back-fire.
