Zero Motivation

i kno it prolly doesnt belong in this forum. but i need so encouragement i think. Im in a sort of a slump or something.
ive been stuck in a rut for 2 weeks. sitting at my drawing table surfing the internet. i just cant pull it together. I have an actuall "job" to do and im stuck. Its not Car related. Ive been asked to design a Marquee for my States Capital and to do some renderings for the downtown renovation project. Very serious stuff. I just cant get motivated. Hers my drawing table just chips in soda and laziness everywhere.

Re: Zero Motivation

Looks cleaner than my work space.
Sounds like some great projects, too.

When I hit the "no draw wall," I try to break thru by grabbing my small sketch book and going somewhere different to doodle.

I'll even sit in front of the boob tube, grab a drink, and start watchin' something fun, all the while holding my favorite mech pencil.
I'll see something and just try to doodle it on the pad.
When I wasn't helping coach, I use to sit in the parking lot at my son's
practice field and draw like crazy. Changes like that seem to help me break thru the artist block.

Hope that can help you a bit.

Re: Zero Motivation

typically when I procrastinate it is because underneath it all, somewhere, I'm afraid of something.

or I'm bored shitless with the subject matter.

find out which one it is and then sort it out.

Probably the single most true statement I've read on this or any art related board.

I have literally lost work due to my own fear...recently. It's a symptom of who we are. The fact that you have this procrastination says that you are an artist of merit GB. People don't ask you to do stuff so they can tell you it's not good.

I have struggled tremendously this last year. My confidence fluctuates wildly, that's why I push. Why do I have doubts? What am I afraid of?...I think success.

My advice to you is look inside and find out what you think your hold up is, then blast through it. It can't stop you because of what you are. You can't stop yourself....because of what you are. If you weren't a true artist you wouldn't even know what motivation is.

Push those chips and stuff on the floor, scratch that cute-a_s dog behind the ear, put on some Emerson, Lake, and Palmer or MF Doom, and draw GB.

Just draw.

Re: Zero Motivation

thanx guys! my entire support structure was ridinmy @ss all week. "are ya done yet? How much have ya done?" im not goood under pressure especially with drawing. when ppl dont kno the process. but i draw. thats my thing. my lil bro is a cop. my lil sis is a teacher. ive never had any sort of life sustaining success with drawing. My fam respects it but never thought it would lead to anything. I have an opportunity to lasso a 50k+/yr job with what my mom says "These simple drawings". im so afraid. thats the truth. i like being the artist in the fam. i like being depressed. i like being a loner. ppl look at me differently. I have a talent. NOT A SKILL!! i was born with this. i do it 4me. Im not picasso. But i kno i can draw anything i see, if i want to. I need this. 2nite i got drunk. hung out with ppl who don t judge me. kinda shook loose all my fears. ready to do this. Thanx guys Lem,Bonz,Blip u all put it in perspective.

Re: Zero Motivation

Being an artist is the biggest curse and biggest gift at the same time.

You're glad you're weird, different, observant, sensitive, talented..... and you're sad that you're weird, different, observant, sensitive, talented.

Re: Zero Motivation

Aww, don't be unmotivated. Think of a cool concept or idea and start scribbling away, eventually you'll find that spark to start the motivation again. That's how I felt all summer until I recently though of a cool design and started scribbling away till I got something where I was motivated enough to finish. Check out my RX-7 drawing, that's how I got my motivation to start again.
