Re: 88 crx dx temp gauge

The temp gauge sending unit is under the distributor. It is a one wire plug and pretty easy to spot. Also the jumping up and down is either from low coolant causing a hot spot that cycles through your system, or more likely a bad ground in the engine compartment.

Re: 88 crx dx temp gauge

I'm thinking it might also be a thermostat... if it keeps closed, then opens and closes again... that might allow the temps to rise, then fall quickly like normal, but then if it closes again, temps go up again... see what I mean?

Look under your distributor on the head... there are two "things" there... one is two wires, the other is one wire... the one wire one is the one you want.

Thumbs down Re: 88 crx dx temp gauge

I have replaced the thermostat and now it is still doing it. Sometime if i thumb the dash it will goto normal than right back to hot? Is there a certain why that the thermostat needs to go in i have read something on this forum that it could be affect by this?

Um.. well, yeah, and if you put it in backwards, it won't open.
