97 Grand Marquis steering problem
Hi
My 97 is all over the road when driving on the highway. If you hit a gully or divit it will veer to one side or the other. There is no wear on the tires or shaking of the front end. I have to drive with two hands at all times Driving around town is another story. When i'm making a turn the wheel will not come back, I have to turn it back. Any ideas. Thanks |

Re: 97 Grand Marquis steering problem
Sounds like it has too much toe out. Get the front end aligned. If there is something worn they will tell you because they won't line it until it is fixed.

Re: 97 Grand Marquis steering problem
There is a little universal joint in the steering shaft. Remove the shaft and lubricate the joint with transmission fluid, penetrating oil, regular oil, or whatever is handy. Work the joint in all movements it will go until complately free. This is common on Ford products. Good luck and let us know.

Re: 97 Grand Marquis steering problem
Look on your car. Down beside the Power Booster and the engine where the shaft comes through the firewall is a connection. The little u-joint is in that connection.

Re: 97 Grand Marquis steering problem
Hi
It turns out that my lower ball joints were shot. I had a friend replace them and check the little U joint. While i was at it, i had him replace my fogged up and scratched headlights. Front end alignment will be done Friday. My three most pressing problems are gone. I think the price i paid for the replacement headlights is a pretty good deal. $67 and change. Online Thanks again |
