Solenoid question

i've have had trouble starting my car recently. It will take anywhere from the first attempt to 5-10 minutes later for the car to start. I hear the clicking all the time. Last night, my car simply died. No clicking noises whatsoever. So, today i went to get the alternator tested and it was good. So i had a look at the starter, which was rusted to no end. I bought a new starter and installed it. Now, none of my indicator lights (the emergency brake, seatbelt, check gauges, etc.) won't come and and none of my gauges even move. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't connect the wires to the solenoid properly. My question is how many of the wires connecting to the solenoid are from the switch and how many are from the motor and the battery? I'm mostly concerned with the larger wires since the small wire is apparent where it should be. I would greatly appreciate any help on this. Thank you.

Re: Solenoid question

the red wire comes from your starter to plus side of battery neg. of course is grounded at engine so if you got bad ground it will never start because there is no groundwire from the starter or any other place. you sure got wires right.
ok another thing do you have head lights? are they dim or bright when you turn them on? i think proble might be bad ground or the syl is shot i no its a new one right?

Re: Solenoid question

hey guys, the car is 1991 and has the 3.1 liter engine. Not sure why i didnt label the wires, yes i know... it was dumb. And This is probably the cause of my fustration. I would like to know a couple of things.

1)Should there be any other wires that get connected with the postive wire from the battery?

2) which wires get connected to the switch terminal? and the motor terminal?

3) There is one wire with a fusible link, where does that connect to?

Thanks in advance.
