1996 2.2L Noise from fuel tank

My 1996 Cav 2.2L is making a whining noise from the fuel pump. at least i would suspect it is the fuel pump. when i turn on the blinkers you can hear the noise change in tone with them. if i hit the accelerator the noise will increase in pitch. it has been doing it for quite some time, but just recently has the car started to stall out, or randomly miss with stopped at a stop light. any suggestions to as if it is anything other than having to replace the fuel pump?

It probably is a bad pump, but check the pressure to be sure.

The change in pitch is most likely just a change in pump RPM due to changing electrical loads and charging voltage.

Re: 1996 2.2L Noise from fuel tank

And if you ever change you fuel pump, check out for a fuel pump repair kit on ebay. I got one yesterday because my car does the same noise, but I hear a difference when I hit the brakes slighltly (guessing it's when the lights turn on). It's also a pain to start the car which has been a huge headache to fix...

Anyways, if that kit works, I just saved a nice little 250$ since the kit was only 42$ and a pump runs around 300-350$, I just hope it's going to do...lol
Just hope I can crack my pump open to replace the parts without too much trouble... :P

I don't know if you have an Advance Auto Parts store near you, but they have Cavy fuel pumps for $240. That's $60+ saved right there.
