Front Hub Assembly Torque?????
I have a 2002 Astro AWD. I got a grinding noise that started a couple of weeks ago, gradually getting worse. It sounded like the front breaks needing replacing. So I bought the pads and rotors - UAP/Napa has the whole kit for under $200 taxes included. Today I decided to replace them and was shocked to see that the brakes were not too bad, but the hub assembly was about to self destruct on the driver side. So I took it all apart and found a replacement at a local part supplier. I got the whole thing back together but I am not sure what to torque the center nut to. I know that on the 2 wheel drive you torque the center nut to 12 pounds but am not sure about the all wheel drive, since it is a hub assembly. Not cheap by the way.
Can anyone tell me what to torque this nut to and do I use locktite on it? Thanks for any help! |

Re: Front Hub Assembly Torque?????
1996-2002 front hub nut torque is specified at 147 ft/lb. The nut is supposed to be self-locking, so no thread locking compound should be necessary.

Re: Front Hub Assembly Torque?????
Thanks! Do I need to replace the nut after taking it off or can I use the same one? I know on boats, some of the nuts on the transom are 1 time use only as per the Mercruiser manual.

Re: Front Hub Assembly Torque?????
A replacement hub used to include a replacement nut. I would either install a new nut or use the Loctite, 242 or better.
