After Market Stereo Problems - Wiring.

I have an 02 Intrigue GX with a Delco Electronics factory deck that I am trying to replace with a Sony Xplod deck. I purchased a harness adapter that comes with a 24 pin and a 32 pin connector. The factory harness I have is a 24 pin. The problem that I am having is that I cannot find a +12vdc switched accessory wire on the factory connector.

Any wiring diagram that I find states that the switched 12v is a yellow wire. There is no yellow wire, aside from 1 speaker lead. There is an orange wire next to the constant 12v wire (which is also orange). I thought this was the 12v switched until I took a meter reading. With the car off...I get +.33vdc, when I turn the key to acc....i get a reading of 2.5 vdc, when the car is started, i get a reading of .44vdc. (these are approximate readings). I need the 12vdc switched in order to make this sony deck work.

Now, is my problem a short....I actually did find a switched 12vdc wire and I'm getting "ghost" readings from a short, or is this wire actually only supposed to put out the 2vdc when on Acc. (if so...what's the purpose?)

...and where is there another 12vdc source that is switched with the ignition that I could splice into?

I hope someone can help me figure this out.

Re: After Market Stereo Problems - Wiring.

ok, first lets get things right...your not cutting any factory wires are you? if you do your in for a hell of a wiring ordeal. Buy a harness that plugs into the factory harness in the dash, you wire that together with the harness for the new CD headunit, and then you simply plug the new unit into the vehicle. If this IS the way you are doing it, then the RED wire is a switched +12V lead, turned on by the ignition. The Yellow wire is always live +12v even when the car is off (to keep radio pre-sets, time etc) If you decided to chop into the factory wires they are a mess, they follow no set color code and are pretty much random. Cutting wires is for stereos

No, I am not cutting any wires. I know better. I have already purhcased the harness adapter and connected the head unit harness. This is all ready to go, however, I'm not getting any power on the 12vdc switched accessory wire (red) for the head unit.

The problem lies at the factory harness.

I have actually just found the solution and will post just for information purposes.

The 2002 Intrigue with the 24 pin factory harness requires a module (Gmos-lan-04-Lan Onstar Interface) It's for amplified systems. My car doesn't have the OnStar option but it's the only explanation. Apparently this module will provide the 12v switched wire that I'm looking for and retain door chimes, RAP, and other features.
I'm in a rural area and will have to wait to find a module...so it looks like the factory deck is staying where it's at for now. Thanks for reading and thanks for any input.

oh, so the 02' intrigue is similar to the alero? meaning the door chimes through the speaker system? My 98' has a completely different set-up with the Bose system.

My 02 Intrigue has the chime built into the lighting/locking/whatever module just above your left foot in the drivers side foot well.

Ok, that's cool.

Does anyone know where the amplifier for the sound system is located in the models that have one?

mines in the trunk up above between the two rear speakers....my friend has an 02' alero and the amp is in the trunk behind some trunk carpeting on the left hand side (this is a monsoon sound system, i think the later model intrigues used the same set-up)
