chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
I am looking to buy an s10 for carrying tools, steel beams, a generator and maybe moving furniture,
whould you recommend a 4 cyl or a 6 cyl...a 4 cyl might save me on gas but it might wear out quicker from hauling wieght as opposed to a 6 cyl that will take more gas but last me longer thus less mechanical problems an dmore power. 2.2 L 120 hp (89 kW) I4 4.3 L 165 hp (123 kW) V6 Any comments are welcome.... thanx |

Re: chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
I would recommend a 4.3 ltr V6 just for fact that they can pull like a full size and save you some gas. The closed port injection engine is the stronger of the two diffrent engines that coume in the s-10 trucks. But they both do very well with a lot of weight. this only from experince with them. I own one. Hope this will help!

Re: chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
thanx for the reply corem....
One last thing on that issue....which engine the 4cyl or the v6 will last longer under the same conditions, same service, maintenace, hauling stress, mileage, same abuse...etc...etc.....the fact that 6 cylinder share the amount of work to move the vehicle as opposed to 4 cyl makes a difference on the life of the engine, heat mechanical stress, etc...does it make any sense? I like this little bitch running , thats me when my vehicle breaks down.. |

Re: chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
I beleive that the 4.3 would last longer because the work on the engine would be less. The four cyclinder would have to turn a lot more rpms to do the same work and be alot slower. This is just an opinion and has some real life trying out on my part. Hope this helps!

Re: chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
the 6 cyl would be better by all means. it would end up saveing you money cause the 4 cyl would need moor maintance with the towing and everything. there are also a slew of aftermarket parts that will save you gas while at the same time adding torque and horsepower. you just have to watch out for the scams on this stuff. keep up on your maintaince like oil changes and fuel system cleaners and all that stuff and the v6 will diffently last a whole lot longer under those conditions

Re: chevy s10 4cyl vs 6cyl
My '94 6cyl has put up with abuse and lousy maintenance, and STILL no major problems. Mileage decent too.
