Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

Good Morning,

This morning when I started my Intrigue the SVS light and Trac Off lights were on before I left the driveway. I shut the engine off and restarted it and the lights went out. Afterwards, while driving down the road they came back on. I shifted to neutral, turned the engine off again, restarted and proceeded to keep driving. The lights went out and stayed out for the remaining 10 minutes of my commute.

I know people have had this problem before but cannot find anything on it.

Thanks all,

Hoppy

Try taking a look at the front wheel sensor wires, this is a very common problem.

Look for a bad connection at the plastic plug? Or for damaged wires? I will check both, but which is the cronic problem with them?

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

Well the failure of the actual sensor itself is common, the sensor is inside the hub assembly, so it requires replacing the whole assembly, bout 100 dollars for parts alone.

But, sometimes the wiring harness comes off its clip and starts flopping around, which can give a bad reading I guess, its happened to me a time or two. But the only way to tell for sure what the problem is is to get the car scanned either by a dealership or a mechanic with a Tech II equivalent scanner, GM will charge anywhere from 50-100 bucks just to plug into the scanner, a mechanic might cut you a break hoping to get your business.

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

In most cases, it is the wires where they enter the plastic molded connector on the hub end. Rarely it happens to the chassis side of the connector. If it is the wires, you are most likely gonna have to replace the whole hub, as it is very difficult to repair the wires with any repeatability. You might get lucky and only have a backed out connector...

If none of the above works it must be scanned with an abs function scanner, no other way.

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

good practice with the cheap wheel hubs is to put some silicone on the wires where they come out of the hub, they pull out of there and break very easily. My car has the same problem right now...every so often my "low trac" light turns on, sometimes the SVS, tac off and abs lights come on...but just today the SVS and trac off lights tirned off, but the ABS and the red emergency brake light stayed on ..the one beside the ABS looks like this ((!))

I have no brake warning light or ABS lights coming on. Yes they do both work though.

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

If the Service Engine Soon light came on, shouldn't there be a code stored in the computer. Any scanner can read that.

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

I think were talking of the "service vhichle soon" light, which almost always requires a stealership visit to get it properly diagnosed...

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

the Service Vehicle Soon light is on, not the Service Engine Soon, the SVS codes can only be read by a capable scanner.

If you havent been able to find a fault in the wiring, I think the only option aside from randomly replacing parts, is to get the car scanned.

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

i have the same problem...just replaced a set of defective hubs with new ones under warranty..lasted a day and now when i move foreward...even an inch..the svs/trac/abs lights kick on...went over all the wires and connectors...cleaned them up, put some plastic zip ties around the connectors, bent the wires away from the axle so they wont rub...problem still exists. Another defective wheel hub....im saying forget it ill put up with no ABS...i hate not having magnasteer, but oh well. Will pulling the abs fuse get rid of the dummy lights?

Re: Service Vehicle Soon and Trac Off lights.

I have a similar problem with my '02 GX. I had my buddy put it on his scanner and it came back reading..."right-rear wheel sensor (abs) or any other wheel sensor". Needless to say, that proved nothing. I talked to a guy that said that the hub/sensor assembly generates a lot of static electricity and causes shorts or bad signals from any abs sensor. Sounds kinda far out, but I put an anti-static strip on the car that cost less than $10 and haven't had any problems since.

Not a real technical answer for you but it worked for me.
