2 months later - the 20 second idle!

OK so put a nice tarp on the machine while away in euroland.

first start, fired right up, then comes to a seemingly "no fuel" progressive stall after 20 seconds

Checked fuel pressure after filter, A-OK, get's very high before stall out.

Tried replacing fuel injector pressure regulator, no change.

I can blow in the return line with engine off and can blow bubbles in the tank

If I blow when engine running, pressure builds and still stalls, then the gas comes back out the return line (watch out!)

So thinking we need to drop the tank and see if either the return line plumbing is clogged or the fuel pump pickup needs to be changed?

welcome back!

Does your car have an evaporative emissions vent solenoid?

Re: 2 months later - the 20 second idle!

Hey Rod thanks for the heads up

Well in terms of evaporative tubes, we do have some that go to a sensor but those tubes are so small that i'm not sure they have anything to do with the vacuum or pressure backup or something...

The check engine light does go on with the codes cleared (disconnect bat for a sec) after 10 seconds of idle.

we did notice yesterday while trying to empty the gas tank that the pump only runs while in START (aka the key turned, yagga yagga y...) and not while in the ON position would be interesting to try and hotwire the pump and see if that works.

Otherwise I've basically blown a day pulling the gas tank and refitting some high pressure lines that I had to chop up.

Where would the fuse for the pump be?

grazie!

That's going to vary from one car to the next, and I don't see where you've told us what your car is. I'm guessing an Eagle of some sort, apparently with a Mitsubishi 4-cylinder engine. Maybe a Talon?

For specific fuse location information you'd be best off posting in the forum specific for your make and model. You should try searching that forum as well to see if others have already solved issues similar to yours.
