Question knock sensor for a 1993 villager

I have a 1993 Villager w/ 132k miles on it. Recently it started to idle rough and have lost some significant power. I replaced the O2 sensor but to no avail. So I pulled the code and it gave me a *34 code error which is a knock sensor. Is there anything else I can do before dismantling my engine to replace this knock sensor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Re: knock sensor for a 1993 villager

WHen was the last time a tune up was done to it?

Check the timing, could be possibly timing belt jumped a notch. Seems to me that the 93 timing belt replacement is recommended at 60,000 miles where as the 94 & 95 is 100,000 miles, different style belt also.

Check fuel pressure and fuel filter. You will need to check with a gauge hooked to where the fuel filter is and pressure should be 34 PSI at idle and 43 PSI with full throttle.

Also look for vacuum leak, use a can of carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner and spray around engine for leaks, engine will increase in rpm's if you find the leak.

DO NOT replace the knock sensor they very rarely fail. Usually another code is present with the knock sensor code.

Re: knock sensor for a 1993 villager

Thanks for reply. I will try to find a vacuum leak. I replaced the timing belt @ 60k and 120k miles. Also recently replaced my fuel pump/filter @ 122k. Hopefully it is a vacuum leak. As for the code, the only one I get is a code 34 (3 solid CEL light followed by 4 rapid CEL light). Thanks again.
