WHat happened that it stopped running? WHat is your fuel pressure at? You can check sort of, if you press the valve and fuel sprays out ( alot) than your pump is working, if it just trickles out, you either have a bad pump, or a kinked line.Is the spark good and blue, and consistant? If all of these check out the olny other item would be cylinder compression. I have seen the MAP sensor cause problems like this, but check everything else first before you spend the $$.

Are both xj's have the same drivetrain? Well if you have fuel and fire, chech the timing. Just tur your crank to TDC-0 and look were your distributor is, it will either be at #1 or 180' out. The other thing would be to put a test light on the injector connector and crank the engine, it should light intermittently(firing the injector).

Re: Wont Start Please Help

yeah i have no light when i check the injector connector, how do i fix that? and yeah it has the same drive train

i read that if you kick it over a couple times and then smell gas coming out of the exhaust and there is gass on the plugs that it would be a timing issue, is that true??

Re: Wont Start Please Help

If you have fuel at the rail and spark at the coil, then it is not the CPS, but you should check the stator in the distributor. This tells the computer when to fire the injectors. It is not very expensive, but you have to take out the distributor to change it. I had this problem on both my 87 and 90 with the in-line 6.

Re: Wont Start Please Help

If its not starting, and you have checked teh timing, then the next thing would be to look at the compression of the cylinders. If there is no- or little compression it will not run on that cylinder. Right now, if you pull the plugs out and they are wet, remove all of them then disable the fuel pump and crank teh engine over (with plugs out) this will help get rid of the excess gas thats built up in the cylinders. Once its clear, then installthe plugs and re-enable the fuel pump. Try to start it, if no luck ,check the compression. THe cylinders should be about 90-150 psi.
