any axles from other years/cars that will fit?

This has probably been covered, but I couldn't find it, so I was hoping someone knew... or had a link.... link would be fine.

I have a 89 DX, it needs at least the pass. side axle (boot is ripped, knocking on corners), but could use both.. I'm using the DX tranny and stock hubs.. so what can I use?

same at napa, but if anything else will fit, I can get them free.. I work at a junkyard part-time, they give me parts.

You're mistaken, unless it's a model-specific thing... DX EG's won't fit, ours are 25 spline at both ends, the EG's are 26 outside/25 inside.

I'll check on other ones tho, since you usually have an idea what you're talking about lol.

I see. It would make sense. But I havent ever heard anything about the splines being different. Dont see why they would be dumb enough to do that.

Re: any axles from other years/cars that will fit?

according to rock auto, there are two types for our cars... 23/25, and ??/26

NiChio makes the ??/26, the desc. is "{Front CV Axle Assembly: Right, 26 tooth outer joint
Remanufactured #06443SH1505RM}"

I'm thinking that I'll have to just grab one from the '95 at the yard (only one that's 5spd) and try it out.. see if it will fit or not.

Side note, even the NiChio part number is different between gens.. but I've seen alot of cases where part number just meant something stupid was changed, like the ring clamp for the boot.

I was wonder - is there a difference in strength, fuel mileage, life expectancy, between the 23 and 26 spline axles and what difference does a solid straight shaft compared to the "bludge in the middle" and are they hollow in the larger diameter section (i'm don't know the name for these different shafts) type shafts

Re: any axles from other years/cars that will fit?

I was gonna say, Christ, I have used just about any axle I could find laying around when I was at the salvage yard. Very seldom you will run into something that won't work just as long as you stick with the same series. I don't even think Auto or manual makes a difference, I'm pretty sure when I did the auto-5spd swap i reused my axles....but could be mistaken there.

Re: any axles from other years/cars that will fit?

Thanks for the input Tony... I was waiting for a 'vet with some experience on the forums to chime in with personal experience lol... I'll get the axles free from the yard until I can afford new ones.
