Heater Problem!

i have an audi a4 1.8se 1997
All off a sudden my blower for the heater seems to only work when it feels like it!!!
I am told by a pal that this may be a resistor problem but unfortunately neither of us know where to look for this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as if it is easy enough to do would rather do it myself than pay the dealer a bucket load for what is probably easy job.

definately not the climate control as sometimes it works and works fine. other times the heater doesn't blow at all for the entire journey. i know the fan shouldn't kick in until engine is warm enough but this doesn't seem to want to work sometimes even if the engine has been on for some time and should be warm enough. When it's not working it wont blow any air regardless of temperature wanted, when it does work you can choose any and it works fine

Re: Heater Problem!

found somewhere on the net that it is a problem with the fans behind the dash, apparently they tend to seize a little now and again. recomends starting car then if fan doesnt start when it should give dash a knock and fan's will start. it works but am not keen on having to hit dash every time want heat. but am told stripping dash is big job so may have to just make do.

Re: Heater Problem!

I've got an A6 TDI same problem.

The resistor on mine was easy to find...remove rain deflector near windshield, fan housing should be clearly visible now, then remove the large connector block and behind this is the resistor.....was on mine anyway.
