Got a really good deal on Testors Mini airbrush
So this dude on ebay has quit a few of the Testors mini air compressors w/ the regular ol single action brush. It was only $44 with shipping. They are silver instead of blue. I asked him why I couldn't find them at any stores, and he said because they are the kits that Testors sells to art schools and small businesses in bulk. I've used one of these mini's before and they are pretty good for a starter kit.
So those of you who are on a budget like me it's probably better than the cans of air, or spending 5 bucks a pop on rattle cans. They can be found here MODS: I am in no was affiliated with this cat, I'm just trying to share with those who have a tight budget like me. I thought it was a pretty good deal that's all.

There's no such thing as a 'good deal' on one of those Testors single action airbrushes with compressor - they're such junk Testors shouldn't give them away!

Re: Got a really good deal on Testors Mini airbrush
To me they are better than the can's of air that I was using. And for a starter compressor I like it. When I have more flexibility in my budget I'll be able to drop $240 on a decent set, but for now this will do.

Re: Got a really good deal on Testors Mini airbrush
Hey, man, those Testors brushes don't feel like squat when you're just looking at 'em or holding one in your hand, especially if you're used to metal ones. But I've come up aces on every one I've actually used.
There's a "Mighty Mini" kit on that very same auction page, which I bought mainly for its compressor; I was looking for something more portable than ye olde blue Paasche boat anchor. Came with this little single-action A270 brush that felt like something out of a cereal box. Because I'd recently moved to a nice, woodsy little area with neighbors in very close proximity, I'd been reading up on Testors Acryls. Lo and behold, the airbrush kit came with a few bottles. So I rigged up the 270, loaded it up with the purple bottle and siphon, cranked the little red tip wide open, and shot a spare '50 Ford hood, keeping the "wet edge" Testors recommends for its gloss acrylics. Damned if I wasn't met with one of the smoothest, level-est, most texture-free gloss paintjobs I've ever laid down with any kind of paint. Based on that, I got a double-action 470 kit - another POS-feeling resin piece - that's been an absolute GODSEND for quick color and nozzle changes. I've made deadlines with that which might have been impossible for me otherwise. A certain '58 Impala I just completed is almost all Acryl-finished, with that selfsame 470. They might not look or feel that impressive. But damned if they don't work. Last edited by Chuck Kourouklis; 07-15-2008 at 07:11 PM. |
