Fuel Pump Question

Just This Weekend My Fuel Pump Pooched Out. I Checked The Fuses, Auto Shut Off Switch Etc. My Question Is, What Am I Looking At Cost Wise For Replacing It? 2000 Windstar Lx.

Thanks In Advance

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I've replaced mine a couple of years ago, before aftermarkets were avail. I believe I remember the cost of the pump, complete with inlet fiter, was around $200+ at the Ford counter. Did my own labor ... took me most of a day.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Replacement of the fuel pump requires that the fuel tank be dropped.
I would recommend a replacement pump complete with a new "pickup".....which has a new "sock" filter.
So that you end up with a new pump and filter.
This is the filter that is on the pick-up part in the fuel tank.
The canister filter that should be changed....say each year or 2 is a different filter.

Hey - I had mine go last year. Cost of a new Delphi pump was about $240.00 CDN, and the tow-truck bill to get it home was $200.00. You have to remove the gastank and it is a lot of work, especially if the fittings are old and rusty. I'm sure Ford would have charged me $400 or $500 to replace it. When I got it reinstalled, I decided to test the new pump before closing the tank and putting it all back up in place. Turned-on the key, and nothing happened. Should have at least got a short burst from the pump to load up the fuel rail. After scratching my head for a while, I decided to maybe check for a blown fure, or something. Sure enough, that's what I found. Replaced the fuse and the pump sprang to life. Then tested the old pump, and it was still working too. It was the @@$^&! fuse all along. Still, there had to have been a reason why it blew, so given all the work this required, I put the new pump in anyway.
