Because as nice as it sounds, the VQ35 is useless without FI, and FI on those motors is retarded expensive for not that much gain.

Now if you didn't own him that would be something to talk about.
They're capable of mid 13's, stock. The 2007+ HR model had a best of about 13.1, but the high-end trap speeds (range: 104mph to 108mph) suggest that it is capable of even high 12's on a perfect day.

The non-HR models are capable of high 12's with bolt-ons. Also, you can get a single-turbo deal for as low as 4500 bucks or even cheaper. Check here: http://www.turbo-kits.com/350Z_turbo_kits.html

Brand: Turbonetics

Type: Street/Strip
Status: IN STOCK
Price: $4795.00
Models: 6MT, 5AT & Rev Up
Those aren't the lowest prices I have seen them give, either.

With that being said, the S197s are faster than the older 350Zs by as much as the 2007 350Zs are faster than the S197s, so I guess that makes it even between both camps. Also, there are the Rev-Up 350Zs that are also capable of trapping up to 104mph, just as a normal (non-Special Edition) S197 Mustang GT is.

Sorry. Just combatting misinformation, as always.

uhh, all the stock ones i've seen at the track are running 14's and 15's...maybe they could run mid 13's stock if they were 3,000 ft below sea level, it was 0º outside, and there were 50mph gusts of wind at their back. maybe.

I would have to pull the flag out on a stock Z pulling a 13.1... That I would have to see to believe. I like the car and all, but a 12 second car it is not.

Stock 2007 350Z there, chief. Totally different animal than its predecessors. You can tell it apart from the older ones from the slight hood bulge it has. They have put down between 276 to 292 WHP, depending on how generous the dyno is.

Here's a stock one against a bolt-on '01 Cobra:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6w_Q19XlAQ

That's the same driver that has since ran a stock 13.1, I believe:
http://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233840

The list below is just from one forum. Not all the fast drivers go to the same forums.

I've also spent a day at the track, where all the stock(ish) Mustang GTs from New Edge and older couldn't break 15's (AZ summer). What's your point?

Re: Mustang Vs. 350z...

my point, chief, is that comparatively all of the other stock cars were running a lot closer to what they should've been. the stock 05+ mustang gt's were for the most part still all running mid to high 13's, the srt-4's were running low 14's, the stock ls1 vehicles were all in the 13's. obviously shitty track conditions don't reflect accurate times for what the cars are capable of getting, but that wasn't the case.

to give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe every single 350z driver i've ever seen at the track just sucks ass at driving.

12s arent fast. That is marginally quick. And the Speed3 (which I'm trying to get rid of, so don't jump on my nuts about me being a fan boy or anything), will cut 12s with a test pipe, 18 pounds, and sticky tires up front.

Zs are ok. Nice little car. Over rated if you ask me. For the money I'd pick alot of other cars first. I've only run one Z in a three way with a very nicely done RSX at the same time. Neither I nor the RSX were impressed with the headlights.

Um...no. Good job, some excellent driver ran a 13.1. Heres a fucking cookie. Of that entire list, 6 are faster than a 13.5. Every time on that list from 6 to 39 is a 13.5 or slower. Thats not a 13.1 car, thats a 13.1 driver. I would expect you to know the difference. You've been gone for damned near two years and you still think you know everything?

I'd stab myself in the face if I went to the track and couldnt dip into the 14's with my car. Those sort of times are shameful, even for a very novice driver on the hottest night.

I did find out however that my trap speeds drop as much as 6 mph at Firebird when it's 100+ degrees. In the winter I was trapping 101-102 mph bone stock, about a month ago I was trapping a whopping 95-98 mph and hitting the 14.6-14.8 range. But still no 15 second runs...and I'm not even a very good driver.

Heatsoak is a bitch.

  1. I'm talking capabilities here, kemo-sabe.
  2. Do you SERIOUSLY think a "12-second driver" will get a fucking 12-second run out of a stock Civic? Think about what you said. It doesn't matter how fucking godly your driving is, if a car isn't capable of something, you won't get it there. OBVIOUSLY, the 2007 350Z is capable of low 13's.
  3. I don't know everything. But I sure know enough, where my fucking prejudice against certain cars won't allow me to absorb straight fucking numbers, as opposed to sitting there, making insanely idiotic remarks to downplay the facts.
You were a fucking BMW fanb01 for the longest time; Isn't an E46 M3 a mid to low 13-second car in most people's minds? Especially an SMG, where shifts are less of an issue.

With that intro being said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtHWriSGhOU

Is your Mustang a "New Edge or older?" Think about what you just said. Consider that New Edge GTs (99-04), are generally about half a second slower than your S197 GT. Get it now?

Was the driver pedalling it along with his feet, Flintstones style? Apparently, it's all about the driver.

John Force is single digits kinda driver. Maybe he can run 9's with a stock Toyota Corolla.

Re: Mustang Vs. 350z...

I can see what both of you guys are trying to say. When people ask me what stock srt-4's run I tell them high 13's, low 14's even though some people have ran as low as 13.6 with a stock car.

Can we at least agree that 07's are capable of low 13's stock? And no thats not too fast, but its more power than youll ever need in anything other than a straight line. Which is exactly what the 350z wasnt designed for.
