Building flatbed trailers
Do we have any structural engineers out there?
I am building two flatbed trailers. The first one needs to hold 12,000 lbs. For now it will be a single axle (which is nowhere near 12,000 lbs, I think the RAWR for the truck it's out of is 9,000) but when I need to haul that much weight, I'll take the old axle out and install new tandem units. I figure if I have a truck that can pull that much, I should have a trailer that can carry it should I ever need to. I need to know how thick and what dimensions I should make the frame to allow for 12,000 lbs. It will be 20' long and 7' wide. I am planning on using rectangular tubing, unless there is a reason to use something else.
The second one needs to hold 6,000 lbs and will be 12' long and 7' wide. It will be a single axle.
