Re: automatic transmission oil
it's fluid, not oil. engine has oil, manual trannie has gear oil, auto has transmission fluid. i do not believe it, actually, has any oil in it at all.
anyways, several things you need to check on: 1. are you even supposed to change fluid in it? 2000 and younger cars become more and more user unfriendly on those issues, esp german makes. 2. do you have cvt? those fall into completely different game. 3. if not, and you have g'ol drain plug in the fluid pan, i, personally, always go for synthetics. it's expensive, but trannie runs much better. if not, any chrysler/mitsubishi approved fluid will do. it'll say on the can. or ask a parts store person, they'll guide you. i, personally, bought fluid from dealership for our 96 galant, as i was told that miitsu adds something to it special. anyways, are you drain/refill only, or you want to replace ALL of the fluid? because you have large capacity trannie, around 12 to 14 quarts, and drain is only 4 at the best. galant manual recommended following procedure: 1. determine full trannie capacity (say, it's 12 qrts) 2. determine drain capacity (say, it's 4 qrts) 3. drain, refill with 4 qrts, drive for 15 miles, drain, replace with 4 qrts, drive 15 miles, drain, replace with 4 qrts. you have just replaced THE WHOLE ENTIRE FLUID in the trannie, torque converter, radiator, if so equipped, and anywhere else it can be. you can find capacities in local library's chilton, or buy a repair manual. 14 bucks is the best investment. |
