1993 Grand Prix w/ 2002GP 3800 motor swap

How it all started...

Well heres the 93GP before it all started.. Smooth and clean, not one dink! Paid a good $400 and it was worth every penny! 80K Miles.

Well the motor just wasn't enough.. heres comes my baby! Yep, they would only sell me half the car! The entire 2002 front end..

A Nice shaded Spot and the fun began!!

Yup she runs

Wait it gets better..

I did what you asked for. Thanks again for the diagrams!!

Re: 1993 Grand Prix w/ 2002GP 3800 motor swap

Wow, what a nice car! Great Job! Thanks for the pictures!

That 02 must have been in a pretty big wreck.... (hope no one died)

How long did this project take you?

What motor did your 93 have initially?

Does everything work? electrical/guages/ac/etc?

Are you some sort of genius?

Re: 1993 Grand Prix w/ 2002GP 3800 motor swap

It initially had a 3.1 in the gp, we tossed a turbo onto it, but forgot to put on one of the oil lines, so the turbo blew that engine, then we dropped a 3100 in it with a few mods, engine was good, but that's when we decided to drop a 3800 series II in it, we dropped in one from a 99 monte carlo, which the oil pump was broke on, so that's when we got a 2002 grand prix from a junk yard payed $300 for the whole car, so we took some of the interior parts as u can see the dash is in as well as the center console, it had A/C but i preferred to eliminate that, and found ZZP
where i purchased the A/C delete pulley to replace the compressor, the swap took one day, the dash took another day to put in, as u can see there is no door panel on driver side, i put the passenger one in but had to cut it due to dash diffrences, ive been looking for 94-96 GTP's for door panels but no luck so it remains with no door panels,
the car is alot faster with that engine in it compared to a reguar 97-03 GP with the L36 in it it barely beats the 3800 series 3 its all about weight diffrence on the body now. Other than that im slowly doing mods to it
as u can see, now im just going to put that tach meter in tomorrow now that i got the wire diagram for me. I appreciate it!

Do you ever go into parts places and ask for parts for a 1993 GP with a 3800? I bet they look at you weird......

Re: 1993 Grand Prix w/ 2002GP 3800 motor swap

Oh you got no idea man.. ZZP wants VIN# for a PCM reprogram so i cannot do that! Whenever a go into carquest or anything of the sort.. Depending if its motor/interior or rear end.. You should see when its time for Shocks.. or Brakes! All well worth it, except for a few flaws.. Hoping to fix very soon..

Ah, i was actually feeling lazy few weeks back.. I had PepBoys Change the Tires on the rim.. ha.. Every worker in the store was trying to figure it out.. took them 15 minutes to come and say.. "well theres deffintly somthing wrong with your front end, we think you have bad hubs, and tie rod ends" Funny how i just changed those two weeks prior.. They dont even deserve the name tire boys..

Now that im rambling.. I need to find out how to fix this problem!

Well I wouldn't do it if you're running the non-HD 4t65e, I don't think those could stand up to much boost.

Re: 1993 Grand Prix w/ 2002GP 3800 motor swap

Oh, well there ya go

According to ZZP the stock 4t65e-HD can handle mid 13's stock driven daily...so I'd suspect around 300-330hp as a guess, at the crank. I guess they ran that tranny with the LS4 in the GXP, which is 303hp and 323ft/lbs.

Good stuff man!

Maybe should make a little note book for your glove box of part numbers as you find replacements for things, just so if you ever have to do it again....

BTW to everyone else, the only difference between the 4t65e and 4t65e-hd is the final drive portion of the tranny. Just to clarify.

Re host the images! I noticed you were using a second gen subframe.. Does that mean we can use the aluminum subframes?
