Well in that case just pull the ABS fuse, it is just an option anyways.

How much did they charge for the sensor?
It's possible that they may of been screwing you because I was told that the sensors don't normally fail, it's the wires that plug into them that break at the flex point. |

Re: Abs sinsor needs replaced plz help asap
i'm fairly sure that the abs sensor is in the hub bearing assembly, at least for my 99 malibu w/3.1 they were when i replaced both hub bearings.
i am also curious how much goodyear charged you to "replace the abs sensor" and did they provide you with the bad part they supposedly replaced? have you looked at the wiring harness for the abs sensor? it's fairly easy to locate when car is up on my plastic ramps i use for oil changes. one of my harnesses went bad and i was amazed how worn down it looked where it clips into the abs sensor wires coming from the hub assembly. i suspect much rubbing on the tire caused such wear. lay on your back and scooch under car when up on ramps and look for abs wire harness towards rear of tire. it may even be disconnected from clip like mine was. looking forward to reading your update on this matter and how much goodyear charged you & whether or not they provided you with the "bad part" they replaced and charged you for! did the abs light go out after they replaced the abs sensor? how long did the light stay off before coming on again? days, weeks, months? i wouldn't be surprised if they simply re-connected a dis-connected wire harness clip--lot of shady mechanics working at a lot of different places out there, according to what i & others have experienced! sad, but true. |

Re: Abs sinsor needs replaced plz help asap
ABS Sensor is built into the hub, so you have to replace the whole hub
Subscribing to online manual (i.e. Alldata or Mitchell) also try Autozone website, it may have a Vehicle Repair section. Otherwise here are some steps just to get started. I am assuming that it is the front wheel If you purchase the wheel hub/sensor on any front wheels, make sure you have the revised nut, prevailing nut, probably silver color. Old nut has a sheet metal cage and is a black color. Revised nut is suppose to have consistent clamping load on hub and prolong the life of the bearing. GM P/N 10289657, in case the hub does not come with a revised nut Remove the wheel cover or center cap Loosen wheel axle nut, while wheel is on the ground Remove the wheel, the brake rotor and brake caliper Finally remove the wheel axle nut. The ABS Sensor/wheel hub unit is held on the steering knuckle with three bolts. Remove those and then unplug the ABS electrical connector. Reverse procedures for installation Torque the hub to steering knuckle at 70 ft lbs Revised axle nut, torque to 173 ft lbs If it is the back wheel, it is not much more difficult Remove the wheel Remove the drum Remove the nut and bolt that holds the hub to the axle, partially pull the hub out since, the bolt will not clear the shoe Disconnect the ABS electrical connector Reverse procedures for installation, torque the hub to axle at 62 ft lbs |
