Re: 96 Lumina 3.1 // high speed stalls

getting any trouble codes?

throw a fuel pressure gauge on the car and have it sticking up out of your engine compartment so you can read it while driving (ive done it) see if it dips when you have that problem.

check your 24X crank sensor (one behind the crankshaft damper and the wire). possibly check the 7x crank sensor right below your exhaust manifold on the firewall side of the engine, especially check the wire as it is near the exhaust (I just replaced mine which caused similiar problems - the wire was partially melted and occasionally caused stalling and loss of power when pushing the accelerator, then it would crank right back up after i pulled over)... the crank sensors control spark. 7x works mainly for low speeds, and 24x works to fine tune spark at higher rpms. dont rule out either until you've checked them physically. 7x is actually not that hard to remove to inspect for cracks if you have very small arms, but the 24x requires removal of the damper.

possibly your cam sensor and wires which controlls your injectors.

have you had this problem during open and closed loop? If you are having problems also in open loop [when 'cold'], you can pretty much rule out any sensor that is only used in closed loop (hot) operation.

for these fickle/occasional problems i recommend checking sensor connectors and wires

Hey kevin I got the same prob only difference is I just purchased my lumina as a first car. I don't know anything about cars . I'm learning the hard way . I just spent 1000 on it and it's stalling too. I know i sound like a chick and I'm sorry but is anyway you can explain this to me in (extremely) lamenst terms . At least so I can know what to tell the mechanic to check and not get jipped.
Thank you very much, Charles Mitchell
