2000 Windstar Power Driver Seat

My 2000 Windstar power driver seat is not working. My husband looked under the seat and two cylinder like things are moving, but the seat is stuck. It will not move at all. What can I do to fix the problem? Thank you

how handy is your husband? I have a diagnostic pdf for that but it looks like you definitely need a multi-meter to double check. it could be electrical or mechanical. if your husband is up for it, pm me your email address and i'll attach it. it's for an 03 but it should essentially be the same for yours.

Re: 2000 Windstar Power Driver Seat

I'm having the same problem with our 1999 Windstar LX. The drivers seat just stopped working. My husband looked at the fuses and found one of the fuses was out. He replaced it and the seat worked again. Unforunately... not only has the seat gone out again, the indoor lights have also gone out and the fuse keeps getting blown.

Need help on this as well if anyone out there can give us some ideas. Our inspection is due at the end of the month so we're needing to get this done QUICK.

Re: 2000 Windstar Power Driver Seat

Which interior lights are out? Just cabin lights and seat not working wouldn't fail inspection,.....would it? What Nazi state do you live in? In a pinch for your inspection, I'd disconnect all the electrical connectors to the seat controls except the one that checks for the seatbelt/sitting in the seat buzzer and light, as that probably will be not passable. Then put in your fuse so at least you have your lights and can pass inspection. In my state, all they care about the seats is that the seat isn't too deteriorated, and if so, a seat cover will pass it.

The cabin lights. You know when you open your door and the lights inside the van come on? Those lights... all of them. gggrrrrr!!! I'm not sure what inspection rules there are here in Texas. I just know some places look at more things than others. But there's also a light on the console saying there's a light out. Husband put in another fuse and now the seat is working again. I'd rather the lights work than the seat, but I guess we can't be picky can we?

I think hubby disconnected some stuff to the seat and then reconnected them before he put the new fuse in. He's still trying to get it figured out for now. Had a friend mechanic look at it and he was at it for a few hours and couldn't find the problem either. Took apart alot of it but stopped because he was getting frustrated.

Thanks for the info. we'll keep trying.

Re: 2000 Windstar Power Driver Seat

Like you and I said, skip the seat, put in fuse for lights. You should be able to pass with that. I guess all of your outside lights are working? I didn't think the light out indicator came on for inside lights not working, but I could be wrong. Hopefully the fuse will take care of that for your inspection.

The seat motor or the seat mechanism could be binding due to track or gear wear so that it may not be obvious and cause the fuse to blow. Lube the mechanism. The motor could be just shot. No offense meant, but my driver's power seat doesn't like my fat butt, so I have to help it along somtimes.
