Lower Intake Manifold Gasket

well its time to replace my lower intake gasket on my 98 k1500 it has the 350 so parts will be easy and hopefully cheap the only lower intake gaskets i have replaced before were on V6 3400 and 3600 gm engines so im not very experienced with the 350 are there any special tools ill need besides my torque wrench and anyone know where i can go to get all the torque specs i need and any relatively hard parts of the job and i know i have to mark the distributor before i pull it so other than that let me know im sure u guys have done it

im also thinkin of putin in a intake manifold are these worth anything or they just a waste of money and look good on paper

Just did mine in april of 2007. 1998 Chevy Silverado K1500. I went ahead and put head gaskets on too while I was in there. Fairly easy I thought. I did drain out the a/c but you might be able to swing it out of the way. I had to scrap off gaskets so I wanted as much room as possible. If you got a digital camera I recommend taking some pics of the wires and odd ball things you might forget.







This is better than writing stuff down if you ask me. That way you can remember which way hoses ran over and under what, etc. I left the upper intake attached to the lower part and pulled the whole assembly out together. Ill get the torgue specs in a second.

Lower intake manifold torque specs ( from Haynes Manual)

Three steps
1. 27 in-lbs
2. 106 in-lbs
3. 11 ft-lbs

Intake manifold bolt tightening sequence. Hope you get my diagram.

Haynes is a little off on specs.
Best to check a GM repair manual or all data.
Felpro gaskets have a upgraded problem solver gasket that is best.
Usually felpro gaskets have the torque specs with the instructions.
Base dist setting.

After engine is running you will need to get it on a engine capable scanner and set camshaft retard setting on dist

And remember to change oil /filter when done.

well thank ya and no i dont have a digital cam but u pretty much got the pics id need but i also use maskin tape and label wires i pull off (longer but easier for me) but thank ya and just wonderin but without any major problems how long does it take and do i need any liquid gasket

On the ends of the intake GM says to use the GM black whacker T silicone.
I use good grade of permatex gray import silicone.

In the Tahoe section of this forum is a 6 page section with tips and such on replacing the intake gaskets. Good stuff!

You might want to look into the improved intake gaskets from Fel pro,made out of metal instead of plastic which last longer.The part number is MS98000T if you want to know.Check the water fitting too,the original one is made out of pot metal and breaks real easy.The replacement is made out of steel.If you want to do the gasket removal much easier,an air powered die grinder with a stainless steel cup brush and make sure the cup brush is will not do damage to the gasket surfaces.Also when doing this way,wear hearing and eye protection since the air powered die grinder is very loud.
