Re: fuel pump replacement questions
Hey There. . . Never actually replaced the pump on the car so I don't know how much of a PITA it will be. I was just reading the repair manual for the vehicle and it does tell you to drop the tank. (I do know that is never too much fun!)

I just finished replacing the fuel pump in my '04. Its not that hard, I put the backend up on some car ramps, slid underneath, unhooked the fuel lines (2),the filler hose, the surge vent line (or whatever its called), removed a bolt from the heat shielding on the drivers side(so that it would allow the tank strap to drop lower),and then remove the two bolts holding the tank straps. With the way the exhaust is routed, I slid the tank out towards the passenger side. the whole thing took about an hour. Changing the fuel pump out of the tank is easy as well, remove the vent line from the pump, just tap the locking ringwith a drift and a hammer to loosen and pull the pump out, making sure you tip the pump to the side, which allows room for the float to make it out of the tank.
Reverse these procedures and you'll have the tank back in in about 11/2 hrs. Draining the remaining fuel out of the tank definitley made the installation easier. Good luck!! |

I guess it's not the fuel pump?
the whole story, my friends 2000 grand am ran out of gas so tow truck came with gas but it would not start so i thought it was the fuel pump so changed it and still not starting it kinda starts then dies so i don't think it's getting fuel. the fuel relay clicks when you turn the key but i can't find any fuses so i have no idea. do you possibly need to bleed the air out of the lines or something have no idea please help

Re: fuel pump replacement questions
senor_flame, your 2 threads have been merged into one, no need to start another thread on the same topic.
Check the fuel pump wires back close to the tank. I've seen them have shorts , I think most auto part stores carry the repair section for this problem. As far as fuses/relays check in the underhood fusebox, #18 , and #48. and no you do not need to bleed any air out of the system. might even try the security relearn... Good Luck !
