Arrow 96 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4L Twin Cam

My husnabd and I purchased a car that had a resivior problem, we took it to a repair shop and cost over 1500.00, so we decided to do the next thing our selves, becasue it broke down 1 mth after he had the engine dropped.

here is the problem, you start the engine and there is a load knock on top of the engine, were the 2.4 is located. we thought rocker arms, but the engine is sideways, so ?? camshaft?? crank shaft?? can any one help me and hubby(I am a mechanics daughter and yes I do get dirty...) diagnois this problem before we strip this engine apart and spend countless money on the problem... it has a Twin cam, so we are so afraid that is that, but last night I thought rocker arms, but sideways enginearting , and for some reason I can't find then in any parts store....hum????

HELP please, we are starting today to brake that engine open... and I love to brake them open, but hell the thing has to e dropped knot pulled.. crazy cars... not like chevy or ford, those are easy.....

The 2.4's are notorious for bad wrist bearings, that might be a start.

Probably spun the rod bearing. I have done it 3 or 4 times now, which in turn i had to replace the whole engine. so 4 motors I have been through.

Oh, is it the rod bearings that go out? I thought that I had heard of the wrist bearings going bad. My bad.
