O/D off flashes?

I have a 1993 A/T camry that just started to display flashing "O/D Off" but the O/D is actually not off. Also along with the light, I've lost power in the lower speeds range. Where should I start looking first? Is my transmission shot?

Re: O/D off flashes?

The flashing light means you have a transmission fault code stored in the engine control module (ECM). Open your maintenance manual in the "Factory Service Manual" thread at the top of the forum. Look in the automatic transaxle section starting on page AX1-44 for the procedure to read the codes. SST tool is Toyota lingo for a paper clip.

Since you don't mention a problem with the speedo I would guess you have a code indicating a shift solenoid problem. Read the code and come back here. Make sure your tranny fluid is topped off.

If it's a shift solenoid problem, about what kind of price should I expect for the repair job. Is this something I might try to repair on my own. The age and mileage of the car is getting me possibly prepare for a new car purchase.

Re: O/D off flashes?

Shift solenoids will sometimes fix themselves with new transmission fluid. Try flushing the tranny.
