If you plan on exhaust upgrades

Keep it Stock!

The 1998 1.0L Metro I bought had a clogged cat and a rusty exhaust. I thought maybe it would be better to remove the cat, replace the resonator and exhaust tubing with an enlarged pipe diameter of 2" and add a Cherry Bomb glasspack muffler to make it sound better, but I was totally wrong!

These cars are very loud and hard to silence unless you repair the exhaust the way it was intended. After one day driving like this I couldn't take it anymore and ordered all new replacement parts.

New downpipe and cat $120.00
New exhaust donut $4.95
New 1.5" pipes $80.00
New (Walker) muffler $129.00

Total (with clamps and misc) $350.00
Labor time
(2.0 hrs) Free

Might seem like a lot of money, but the car is as quiet as it's ever been and even seems to run better. I did not replace the pipe with stock, but simply used 1.5" tubing and had it bent for free from a friend. I did not use a replacement resonator, but actually wish I did because at high RPM's there is a slight "buzziness" in the muffler.

I don't encourage removing or gutting your cat unless you can deal with the Check Engine Light on and some State or Federal legal requirements. I don't recommend going to a larger diameter pipe since this makes no difference in power or economy in my opinion.

There is only one good sound for the 1.0L Suzuki engine and that sound is..........

QUIET

Re: If you plan on exhaust upgrades

What on earth posessed you to put a cherry bomb glasspack on there? They are horrible not only in sound but they cut your horse power and gas mileage.

I agree with not doing anything to mess with your cat. Too many states require emissions and you can't pass if you remove it.
